ACCOMODATION NEEDED

(an email from Tim Warren of Tilty, 27 May 2009)

"I have a small problem in that I have two female French students arriving during June to join us on an internship basis, as a part of their courses. I have to supply them with board and lodging. As my small bungalow is bursting at the seams, I wondered if you could spread the word in the Broxted to Duton Hill area, in case there was anybody with room either on a full- or part-board basis or, even better, self-catering. We are in the parish of Tilty with a postcode of CM6 2EE, and it would be preferable if they could be accommodated within cycling distance.

"We are of course happy to pay a sensible amount as opposed to a holiday amount. This payment should be enough to cover costs and provide an incentive to the landperson to allow space and time to be occupied. I am intentionally vague because we are offering the students places to help them fulfill their course requirements and not because we need their help.

"In turn the students aren’t wealthy. On the other hand this is not a cheap area and we are realists."

Kind regards,

Tim Warren

BROXTED VILLAGE HALL

The Parish Council has now formally taken over the sole trusteeship of the Village Hall charity, and is responsible for its day-to-day management.

At a public meeting held in November 2006 a number of people expressed an interest in being involved in the future of the hall. Another meeting was held in May 2007, to form a new management committee, responsible for the running of the hall, applying for grants and organising maintenance and improvements, and to make a list of ‘carers’ prepared to help with regular cleaning and maintenance.

The hall is a valuable asset of the village and it is hoped that, with the Parish Council now shouldering the financial burden of the hall, it can be given a new lease of life. If you are prepared to help in any way whatsoever, please contact the Clerk to the Council, Phyllis Clark, on 01279 850638.
