Letter to Uttlesford District Council
from Broxted Parish Council 29th June 2006
re BAA's Planning Application for the maximum use of the existing runway (Generation 1)
Mr J. Mitchell,
Executive Manager (Development Services),
Uttlesford District Council
London Road,
Saffron Walden,
Essex CB11 4ER
Dear Mr Mitchell,
PLANNING APPLICATION UTT/0717/06/FUL
STANSTED AIRPORT – GENERATION 1
Please take note that my Council is implacably opposed to this application.
It considers the application to be extremely cynical; saying it is ‘purely seeking the amendment of one condition and the removal of another’ and then backing it up with seventeen volumes of confusing and misleading data. It has failed to provide much of the information your Council requested in its Scoping Document, and treats the subject of Climate Change in a few short paragraphs, as though it was not its problem.
This is further evidence of the contempt in which B.A.A holds your Council, and of its ‘salami’ approach to expansion; every time it reaches an agreed capacity it seeks to increase it still further. My Council was opposed to the expansion to 25m p.p.a. and felt betrayed by the then Development Control Committee in allowing it, but took some consolation from the fact that a final limit had been set and, once reached, things could get no worse. How wrong we were.
At some time expansion of the airport has to stop. That time is now. My Council looks to Uttlesford to heed the opinions of the vast majority of people in this District, and beyond, and refuse this application.
Yours faithfully,
P. Clark (Mrs)
Clerk
